State Championships Wrap Up

CONGRATULATIONS, TEAM! We walked away with 2nd place overall as a team.  It was a great weekend of diving for our divers and others from around Arizona and we are so proud of the way our divers represented our team.  Below is the detailed results from our divers...we had 12 divers achieve personal best scores, 5 state champions, 8 more divers receive medals, 4 new team records, and 18 new dives between all our divers.

11& Under
Daniella competed JO 1M and 3M Gold, receiving a silver medal on 3M...she competed her back dive tuck for the first time since New Mexico and is looking more and more confident every day!

Mark Bruggeman led the boys, receiving a silver medal on 1M and taking the 3M GOLD.  He dove incredibly consistently coming within a few points of his very best scores in each event.

Josiah Knapp improved in both his 1M and 3M JO events and received personal best scores in both events.  He's been making HUGE improvements and working hard to make corrections before we head to Zones in June.

Zeke Sanchez also looked to improve his scores in his JO 1M event and moved up a level on 3M.  He also received his personal best scores in both events and walked away with the FC Gold 3M state championship title!

12-13
Korey Reese stepped up huge for our team at this competition and competed in JO 3M for the first time.  She improved her scores in both events and had amazing consistency all weekend.  We are so excited for her as she begins competing at the highest level in her age group!

Daniel Knapp had an incredible showing all weekend long.  He found personal best scores in all 3 events, broke all 3 team records, and is a 3-time state champion!  He received several 9's throughout the events and scored over 60 points on his back 1 1/2 with 1 1/2 twists on 3M.  He dove confident and consistent and is looking ready to tear it up at zones!

Tommy Wright improved his 1M score by almost 30 full points and received his qualification score for AAU nationals this summer.  He also had a great competition on 3M and walked away with the GOLD in his age group.  His dives looked graceful and confident all weekend long!

14-15
Rebekah Knapp had a full weekend, competing 1M, 3M, and PL JO.  She medaled in both springboard events and narrowly missed a medal on platform.  She has been working on consistency and did a wonderful job battling through a stacked group of 14-15 girls!

Tiah Barrow competed in 3M for the second time at this meet and is starting to show some comfort with her skills up there!  She also had a personal best score in the 1M event, just missing out on medal position.  She made a ton of corrections and worked hard to focus on the things we've been working on at practice.

Alex Roberston wow'd us all with her reverse this weekend!  After a mishap at the New Mexico meet where she accidentally landed back on the board- we took our time to make sure she was really ready to compete this safely, and that she DID!  It was one of her best scores of the event.  Alex also received a medal in the Silver 3M event and is looking ready to add some new 3M dives and move up to JO very soon.

Rigdon Phillips medaled in his 1M Silver event and had a personal best score!  He dove strong and showed all the fundamentals he's been hard at work on.  During the meet warm ups he even took the plunge and jumped off the 10M!

16-18
Gillian Ashley competed 4 new dives this weekend and performed with tenacity and strength!  She has only been diving with us since January and is attacking her optionals on 3M to get ready for college recruiting.  She continuously competed with a great attitude and made every correction her coaches were asking from her!

Kaylie Jackson competed back 2 1/2 on 3M for the second time and broke the 40 point mark.  She is getting ready to head off to college next year and perfecting her 'big girl' optionals to get ready for the NCAA Division 1.  She has turned into an incredibly consist and strong diver after a short year and a half of diving.  She had a personal best score on PL and 1M as well!  Just barely missing out on medal positions in her events.

Lexi Letts medaled and had a personal best performance on platform at the end of this long weekend of diving.  She received several of her highest scores on several dives and just barely missed out on a medal position on 1M.  She is starting to dive incredibly strong and confident as we head towards our summer zone competitions!

Victoria Knapp opened up the weekend with a GOLD in the 3M event...highlight of the event was a beautiful reverse 2 1/2 that scored all 7's.  She had an incredibly consistent weekend and found 2 more silver medals on 1M and PL.  She was within points of her best scores in her springboard events and set a new team record in the PL event.

Celeste Llona is making her way back into the sport of diving after taking a year off.  She competed beautifully in the Senior womens springboard events and the PL Gold event.  She medaled in all 3 events and dove beautifully for her first competition back.

Jacob Ramirez was our lone 16-18 boy diving in this event and showed tremendous strength.  He was .06 away from his personal best score- and he had a failed dive!  He has been improving every day and is looking ready to head to Zones with confidence!
